Opatija celebrates 135 years of spa tradition and becomes a haven for health and wellness.
March, the month in which we eagerly await spring, and sports and recreation replace relaxation, brings the traditional start of the "Opatija - Oasis of Health and Wellness" program, which kicks off on Saturday, March 2, with a free Nordic walk led by experts.
The beginning of March holds symbolic importance for the history of Opatija's health tourism because on March 4, 1889, Opatija was declared an imperial climatic health resort. The title of "champion of health and wellness" and the image of a favorite Adriatic destination for active relaxation and rejuvenation of the mind and body have been held by the oldest Croatian tourist capital for 135 years. The unique climatic position that combines the beneficial effects of aerosols and Mediterranean herbs with the pleasant mountain influence of Učka provides excellent conditions for improving health. In addition, top-notch healthcare institutions, wellness centers, and spa facilities, as well as traditional programs dedicated to an active lifestyle, are a recognizable part of Opatija's offer.
Nordic walks along the historic paths of Opatija will take place every Saturday on different routes starting at 10 am until the end of May and from September to December, starting from Villa Angiolina. They are conducted in collaboration and under the expert guidance of KŠR Gorovo.
In addition to Nordic walking, "Opatija - Oasis of Health and Wellness" also brings "Thalasso Cardio Walk" in collaboration with the Thalassotherapia Opatija institution, which, under the expert guidance of physiotherapists, will take place on March 16, April 20, and May 18.
On April 13, on the Summer Stage in Opatija, the 12th Croatian Festival of Sports Recreation in Nordic Walking and Hiking will be held to mark World Health Day. The Festival program, in addition to selecting different routes for Nordic walking and hiking, includes joint recreation, education on a healthy lifestyle, and a special gastronomic touch.
In the summer months, Nordic walks will be replaced by the popular summer activity - stand-up paddleboarding, known as SUP. SUP Experience is an experiential paddleboarding course led by a licensed instructor, conducted in collaboration with VOP SUP Team. Courses will be held in Volosko throughout June, July, and August.
The project "Opatija - Oasis of Health and Wellness," in addition to Nordic walks and sports programs, brings together numerous Opatija hoteliers and spa & wellness centers, who participate with their special offers (wellness packages and a gastro menu of healthy food).
