Announcement of the programme on the occasion of 180 years of tourism in Opatija
Opatija – the cradle of European and Croatian tourism and a favourite destination of the aristocratic elite, film and music stars, artists and writers, as well as hundreds of thousands of guests from all over the world who enjoy the charms of the ‘Queen of the Adriatic’ every year – this year celebrates its 180th anniversary as a tourist destination.

Menu Summer 2024In addition to breathtaking landscape, the town owes its unique image to a quality offer based on health, business, active and cultural tourism, as well as events that have become a strong draw for guests throughout the year.
This is a tradition that binds, but also guarantees quality. Opatija has maintained its reputation as a high-quality travel destination for eighteen decades thanks to its diverse facilities, which make the town an attractive place to visit at any time of the year. In 2024 the big anniversary will be celebrated with performances by many famous names from the international and local music scene.
The programme at the Open Air Theatre begins on 7 June with a festival of world-famous musicals such as “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “The Producers” and “Jalta, Jalta”. The highlight of the programme in June (among numerous other performances) will be the disco show BACK2LOVE – Homage to Tina Turner and Disco Fever on 29 June as part of the best Croatian event, RetrOpatija.
July will begin in a romantic mood with a concert by Matteo Bocelli on 2 July, followed by the three-day Liburnia Jazz Festival from 5 to 7 July. Nostalgia-lovers will surely be thrilled at the concerts by the British trip-hop and rock band Morcheeba on 19 July and the world-famous disco and funk legends Boney M on 24 July.
August will transport us to Portugal with the world-renowned fado star Mariza, who will touch the hearts of all visitors on 2 August with her singing and emotion. The legendary Australian guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel will lift spirits on 7 August, and on August 15, the Italian diva Anna Oxa will enchant the audience with her music.
The series of events in September will begin with the concert “L’ultima notte rosa” by the Italian musician Umberto Tozzi. The grand finale of the summer programme will be the Vienna Ball on 28 September in the Crystal Hall of the Kvarner Hotel, which this year, as the first hotel on the northern Adriatic coast, is celebrating the 140th anniversary of its construction.
